Which Tesla Template Should You Choose for Paint Shop Skins?
A guide to choosing the correct Model 3, Model Y, Highland, Juniper, Performance, or Cybertruck template before exporting a Paint Shop digital skin PNG.
Why template choice matters
A Paint Shop skin is mapped to a vehicle model on the screen. If you choose the wrong template, a design that looks centered in the editor may feel slightly off in the car. Body shape, lights, trim, mirrors, roof areas, and performance details can all affect how the final skin reads. Choosing the closest template is one of the simplest ways to improve the result before you do any design work.
Model 3 Legacy vs Highland
Model 3 Legacy and Model 3 Highland have different visual proportions and styling details. Highland has updated front and rear styling, and the screen model may represent panel boundaries differently. If your car is a newer Highland, start with the Highland template rather than the older Model 3 template. If you own an earlier Model 3, use the legacy template unless your vehicle software clearly shows the newer model representation.
Performance variants
Performance trims can include different wheels, spoilers, and visual cues. Those details may not matter for a simple all-over color, but they can matter for graphics that need to line up with the rear, mirrors, or sport trim. If your design uses large graphic areas, the closest performance template can make the preview more believable. If the design is only a broad base color, the difference may be less noticeable.
Model Y Legacy vs Juniper
Model Y templates have the same general SUV identity, but the refreshed Juniper styling changes the way the vehicle is perceived. If your vehicle is a newer Juniper variant, use the Juniper template for better preview accuracy. If you are unsure, compare the headlights, taillights, and overall silhouette shown in your vehicle display with the template thumbnails. The goal is not perfection; the goal is choosing the template that best matches what your car software displays.
Cybertruck considerations
Cybertruck is visually different from Model 3 and Model Y, with larger flat surfaces and a more angular display model. Designs that look too busy on a sedan may work better on Cybertruck, but narrow details can still disappear when viewed at small size. Use the Cybertruck template for Cybertruck skins rather than adapting a car template. The geometry and visual expectations are simply too different.
When in doubt, test a simple alignment design
If you are unsure which template matches your vehicle, create a simple alignment test with a diagonal stripe, a roof color, and one bright accent. Export it from two candidate templates and compare how each appears in the car. The better template will usually be obvious because the main shapes feel more natural on the screen model. After that, build your final design from the winning template.
